It was only a matter of time before COVID wreaked havoc for the Tar Heels this season, and that moment came today as Wednesday’s home contest against Virginia Tech has been postponed as the Hokies are adhering to COVID protocols. It was one of three games that were postponed by the league office today, as both Flordia State/Boston College and Duke/Clemson were postponed as well. This postponement picks up where it left off last season, as Carolina had 3 ACC home games postponed, and eventually canceled due to the ongoing pandemic. These postponements also follow the league office’s reverse decision to not make teams forfeit games due to COVID, as they are now going to use a 7-1 rule, meaning that if there are seven players and one coach available they will play the game. As of now, the league isn’t requiring forfeits, as they are at the beginning of the conference season, so there is still time for games to be made up.
As for Carolina, this means that they are off until Saturday when they are scheduled to travel to Boston College, to take on the Eagles, but with their game against Florida State postponed due to COVID even that game is in question as of this moment. This means there is a chance that the ACC could tinker with the schedule and have Florida State and UNC meet on the court either in the middle of the week or over the weekend, but nothing has been decided as of this time.
