Heel Touigh Blog: Tar Heels Preparing to Host 2025 4✮ In-State DL for OV

The Tar Heels return to the field on Saturday as they host the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in Chapel Hill and they’ll do so with the top in-state uncommitted player in the 2025 class in attendance.

2025 4✮ DL Isaiah Campbell, the No. 2 player in the state of North Carolina in the class according to 247Sports Composite player rankings, will be taking his official visit to Carolina on Saturday as the staff attempts to land a game-changing piece for their defense. Campbell, the former Clemson commit, has already made an official visit to Tennessee who is the only other team in the running to land him right now.

Campbell, the No. 39 overall player and No. 5 defensive lineman, is currently in the midst of his senior season at Southern High School in Durham, NC. He has some strong production in limited action, tallying 57 total tackles, 15.0 tackles for loss and 9.0 sacks in just five games. This follows a junior season where he finished with 110 total tackles, 27.0 tackles for loss and 16.0 sacks.

The Tar Heels look to have their work cut out for them when it comes to actually landing his commitment. The fact that he is still scheduled to take the visit is a positive sign, but all indications are that he was blown away by what he saw in his visit to Knoxville a few weeks ago. Since that visit, he has received multiple forecasts across the major recruiting sites to eventually land with the Volunteers, so the Tar Heel staff will really have to wow him. NIL could play a role here, which favors Tennessee, but playing time and vicinity to home are areas in which Carolina has the advantage. The good news is that Rivals national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman said in his article on Wednesday that the race has grown closer over the last couple of weeks and him still taking the visit proves that. It all comes down to how Campbell prioritizes those things.

Finding a way to land Campbell would be a huge boost in a recruiting cycle that has not been kind to the team. With just eleven total commitments and only three of them being 4✮ prospects, their class currently sits 67th in the 247Sports Composite team rankings, which is 16th out of the 17 teams in the ACC. His commitment would drastically change how we look at this class, even if its ranking remains near the bottom of the Power 4.
