The Tar Heel staff has done a good job of retaining guys from this previous roster all things considered, including those who have entered the portal. On Monday, the team convinced another player to withdraw his name after he entered the portal last week.
As first reported by Inside Carolina, redshirt freshman cornerback Ty Adams is withdrawing his name from the transfer portal. This comes just four days after it was reported that he would be entering the portal following the expanded role that he played in the team’s bowl game.
Adams spent two seasons in Chapel Hill and played in ten games all of which came this season. His biggest impact was on special teams where he played 73 snaps, but he did play important snaps against James Madison, Virginia and Connecticut. He finished the season with four total tackles and allowed four of his five targets to be caught for 115 yards and two touchdowns and had a perfect 158.3 quarterback rating when thrown at.
While Adams has had some struggles, this is a nice retention for the Tar Heels who have a lot of holes still to fill. His performance against Virginia shows you that there is potential there, though, and that he is someone worth keeping around and developing to see if he can become a significant part of the improvement on this side of the ball.
