Believe it or not, the college all-star games have already arrived. This week was the start of East-West Shrine Game practices and the Reese’s Senior Bowl is handing out their final invites for their event which begins later this week. On Saturday night, a Tar Heel received a last minute invitation to join the festivities in Mobile.

Tar Heel offensive guard Willie Lampkin got the call last night from Jim Nagy and those involved with the Senior Bowl last night extending the last minute invitation. Practices will take place Tuesday through Thursday before the game takes place in Hancock Whitney Stadium.

Lampkin, a senior offensive guard who spent two years with the program following a transfer from Coastal Carolina, ranked as the top offensive guard in the country according to Pro Football Focus. He earned an 81.8 run block grade, an 87.7 pass block grade and an 81.2 overall overall grade in 851 snaps across twelve regular season games. In 473 pass block reps, Lampkin failed to allow a sack and allowed just eight quarterback pressures. He also took just six penalties this past season.

This is an important opportunity for Lampkin, whose draft stock is not in the best spot right now. He does not appear on any of the major draft boards and is listed as an undrafted prospect and the No. 21 offensive guard on Drafttek’s big board. The hope is that he will be able to prove that his size is not going to be an issue at the next level, which is the biggest hurdle he is going to be navigating in the quest to get to the NFL.
