We’ve documented the struggles that UNC Basketball has experienced so far in the 2025 recruiting class, as they currently have zero commitments in the class. But momentum is starting to turn in Carolina’s favor. Over the weekend, they hosted the #1 overall recruit in the 2025 class, AJ Dybantsa, and outside of attending the football team’s blowout loss to James Madison last Saturday, it appears that UNC impressed Dybantsa, who is still believed to be committing to BYU once the recruiting process comes to an end. Also last week, Carolina made the final four for Acaden Lewis, the No. 32 player in the 2025 recruiting class. Lewis will be on campus in October, and momentum is building towards a possible commitment while he’s in Chapel Hill.
With all that in mind, the first commitment might be coming in the form of four-star, combo-guard, Derek Dixon, who picked up a UNC crystal ball from 247Sports. Dixon, is the No. 51 player in the class according to 247Sports, along with being the No. 9 combo-guard, and the No. 2 player from Washington D.C., the same place that Acaden Lewis hails from. The crystal ball comes after he visited Chapel Hill back on September 6th, and comes ahead of his commitment, which will take place on Friday, September 27th, at 12:00 PM, on CBS Sports HQ.
