The ACC held their annual preseason media event last week in Charlotte, as all 17 ACC schools met with the media, ahead of the 2024 college football season, one that figures to be a good one for the league. After the event, various media members are asked to vote on numerous awards, including the projected order of finish. Those results became public today, and the Tar Heels find themselves in the middle of the pack in the expanded conference, as they are projected to finish 8th in the ACC in 2024. Florida State was voted as the preseason favorite, with Clemson coming in second place, with 26 fewer first-place votes. Carolina failed to receive a first-place vote, while Florida State, Clemson, Miami, NC State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Cal, and Boston College all received votes to win the league.
2024 figures to be an important season for the program, after up and down success the first five years of Mack Brown’s second stint in Chapel Hill, Brown has to prove he’s still the right man for the job, after losing Drake Maye to the NFL. It’s unknown what an 8th place finish would mean for his job security, but with a fan base that is starved to see a consistent winner, an 8th place finish might not sit happily with UNC fans, even if the program is in a transition season.
