The Tar Heels are doing their best to establish a pipeline to national powerhouse IMG Academy and they took the first step towards doing that on Friday night.
As first reported by Steezo Designs, the graphic designer for Rivals, the Tar Heels are one of the ten schools remaining for 2026 CB A.J. Marks. They are joined by Illinois, Iowa State, Miami (OH), Oklahoma State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Toledo and UCF.
Marks just concluded his junior season at IMG where he became a starter for the national squad. He finished the season with 34 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, two interceptions, four passes defensed and two forced fumbles.
When it comes to where his recruitment stands, it feels like the Tar Heels probably have a legit shot here. While schools like Penn State and Pittsburgh may have a leg up because of how long they’ve been in the mix, the addition of his coach from last season, Billy Miller, could go a long way here. With the team’s offer being recent, they have some time to make up, but one would expect the staff to get him on campus sooner rather than later.
