The Tar Heels are off to a hot start in the 2026 class and they are now one step closer to landing a major piece along the defensive front.
According to Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports, 2026 4✮ DT Vodney Cleveland has cut his list of schools down to six as of Tuesday. The Tar Heels are joined by Auburn, Georgia, Florida, Miami and Texas as those still alive for the services of the former Alabama commit.
Cleveland concluded his junior season at Parker High School in Birmingham, AL this past fall where he finished 50 total tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks while helping lead the school to a 6A state title. The year prior, as a sophomore, he collected 19 total tackles and a tackle for loss.
In terms of where the Tar Heels stand, they seem to be in the race for third right now behind two SEC contenders who have hosted him for visits recently. In-state Auburn appears to be a great spot after hosting him last month as does Florida, who hosted him twice in three weeks in January. The Tar Heels were late arrivals to this race, so they need to get him on campus as soon as possible in order to have any real shot here.
