The Tar Heels are still looking for their first commitment in the 2025 class, and that’s still the theme after 2025 four-star center, Malachi Moreno committed to Kentucky earlier today, over UNC, Arkansas, and others. Moreno is the No. 25 overall player in the 2025 class and chose to stay home to play for Make Pope and Kentucky, rather than Hubert Davis and UNC.
While UNC may be without a commitment in the next recruiting cycle, it’s not time to panic about Hubert Davis and his staff's job on the recruiting trail. Carolina has been named a finalist for many top players in the 2025 recruiting class and has several visits scheduled with those recruits. Just earlier this week, they were named a finalist for the No. 2 player in the class, Jasper Johnson, and another top big man, Eric Reibe scheduled a visit to Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels haven’t announced when their annual preseason event to tip off the basketball season will take place, but that could be a target date for them to land their first recruit of this recruiting cycle. That event has transformed into more of a recruiting event than it used to be, and with multiple players set to be on campus, that could be the future of the program moving forward when Carolina starts landing high school talent.
