In a move that was expected all along, Cal transfer Andrejj Stojakovic committed to Illinois earlier today, choosing the Fighting Illini over UNC and Stanford, the program he transferred away from last off-season, when he landed at Cal. While Hubert Davis would’ve loved to add the 6-7 guard to the roster for next season, Carolina didn’t get involved with Stojakovic until Ven-Allen Lubin entered his name in the portal last week.
The Tar Heels have landed five transfers this off-season, bringing in Kyan Evans (Colorado State), Jonathan Powell (West Virginia), Henri Veesaar (Arizona), Jarin Stevenson (Alabama), and Jaydon Young (Virginia Tech), but will still be in the market looking to add one more transfer to complete the roster for next season.
We are still awaiting word on the status of Zayden High, a forward who was not with the program last season but stayed enrolled at UNC, with hopes of rejoining the team this upcoming season. Ven-Allen Lubin’s decision to potentially return got delayed last week, with a deferral judge delaying the NCAA settlement, as there is a haggle over roster sizes in both revenue sports, college football and college basketball. If that settlement isn’t reached sometime soon, the chances of Lubin returning to Carolina are slim, even though he initially agreed to financial terms earlier this off-season.
