Heel Tough Blog: UNC Misses Out on 2025 Five-Star Prospect

247Sports

The fall recruiting period got underway earlier this week, and it’s not off to a good start for UNC, who missed on 2025, five-star shooting guard, Jasper Johnson, who committed to Kentucky earlier today. Carolina has yet to land a single player in the 2025 class, although they have plenty of offers on the table, and many visits to come in the next month or so. Johnson chose Kentucky over UNC and Alabama, giving, first-year head coach, Mark Pope his second star prospect in the 2025 recruiting cycle.

The struggles on the high school recruiting trail comes after the Tar Heels struggled to land a premier center in the transfer portal, to replace Armando Bacot. Earlier this summer, UNC restructured its NIL collective, but they’ve yet to reap the rewards of improving its NIL standing.

Not only did UNC miss on Jasper Johnson, but earlier this week, big man Eric Reibe also canceled his visit to Chapel Hill. With that being said, with Carolina’s annual preseason basketball event just around the corner, many of the best prospects left in the 2025 class, will be on campus soon, and UNC has a track record of sealing commitments, once they get the player on campus.
