The Final Four is set, and that usually means that the news around college basketball dies down, for the event to take center stage, and with the dead period not too far away, Carolina is busy trying to contact as many transfers as possible. Their latest target will be highly sought after, as the Tar Heels have officially made contact with former top-40 recruit Kanon Catchings, the nephew of former WNBA All-Star, Tamika Catchings. Kanon spent the last season with BYU, averaging 7.2 points on a team that made the Sweet 16 and played as well as anybody the last month of the season. He played in 31 games, with 15 starts, and shot 41% from the field, and 35% from behind the arc in his lone season in Provo.

Carolina has spent the majority of the transfer portal, going after guards, but has now turned their attention to the wing, which is where Catchings plays, as he stands at 6-9. He continues a trend of transfer targets that the size that Hubert Davis is looking to add to his roster for the 2025-26 season. Carolina is bringing in five-star prospect, Caleb Wilson, who has the ability to play either the “3” or the “4”, meaning that Carolina’s interest in Catchings, could be a sign that Drake Powell is headed to the NBA, after just one season in Chapel Hill.

Hubert Davis is still waiting to land his first transfer portal commitment of the off-season, but it’s important to remember that they are still waiting on guys like Ian Jackson, Powell, and Cade Tyson to make their decisions. Furthermore, in each of the last two seasons, Carolina has landed the core of its transfer portal class after the initial dead period.
