Heel Tough Blog: UNC Contacts Georgia Tech Transfer

The Tar Heels remain aggressive in the transfer portal, contacting as many guards as possible, as they are looking to add at least one, if not two guards to the backcourt for next season. Earlier this week. Elon transfer Nick Dorn was on campus after they hosted San Diego State transfer Nick Boyd last weekend. While it’s more than likely that Carolina lands Dorn instead of Boyd, but that’s not stopping Hubert Davis, and Jim Tanner from getting involved with another guard, this time from the ACC.

Georgia Tech transfer Naithan George becomes the latest guard the Tar Heels show interest in, and rightfully so, after the sophomore guard averaged 12.3 points, 6.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds last season for the Yellow Jackets. In his career (63 games), George is an 11.2-point-per-game scorer while averaging 5.7 assists and 3.4 rebounds.

What makes George so attractive as a transfer, is that he’s as complete a guard that’s currently in the portal, with his ability to share the basketball, rebound the basketball, and defend in the backcourt. His shooting needs a lot of work, as he’s a career, 40% shooter from the field, and an even worse 33% shooter from behind the arc, but those are numbers while playing for an undertalented Georgia Tech program, that you could argue has overachieved under Damon Stoudamire.

The interest in George is notable, with multiple power programs interested in the Georgia Tech transfer, including Louisville, Texas, Syracuse, Stanford, Arizona State, Georgia, Gonzaga, Oklahoma State, and others, according to 247Sports.
