The Tar Heel football community is still mourning the loss of Tylee Craft and this week has become all about honoring his memory.
Mack Brown announced on Monday that the program has named their nutrition center after him. The signage was already up by Monday, just nine days after Craft’s passing, an amazing expression of just how important he was to the program.
As we said after the Georgia Tech game, the wide receiver room will share the honor of wearing Craft’s jersey the remainder of the season. A different member of the room will wear the number each week in practice and one receiver will receive the honor wearing it each gameday. This is an honor that will have to be earned according to the guy who wore his jersey against Georgia Tech, J.J. Jones. "The older guys would probably wear it first, and just based on how you practice, how you play, how you hold yourself throughout the week, you have to earn the jersey," Jones said to the media on Tuesday. "I don't think it's something you should just be able to be given, because I believe it's such an important number and important piece of this program. So it's something that you have to earn." Jones believes there is a good chance Kobe Paysour will be the one dawning it this week against Virginia.
Speaking of this weekend’s game, Tar Heel wide receiver coach Lonnie Galloway confirmed that the the Tar Heels won’t be the only ones wearing the #TyleeStrong stickers on their helmets. He said on Tuesday that the Virginia football team and equipment staff reached out to the Tar Heel program and will be wearing the decals on their helmets during Saturday’s game, as well.
The Tar Heels also announced on Monday that they will be installing #TyleeStrong signs around their locker room that guys will be able to tap on game days.
The Heel Tough Blog continues to extend our condolences and prayers to the Craft family and we encourage you to continue to donate to help his family with his outstanding medical bills at https://www.gofundme.com/f/join-us-in-tylees-battle-against-cancer.
