The excitement around the Tar Heel football program is at an all-time high after Bill Belichick agreed to become the program’s next head coach. Since the hire was made official, the team got the news that two players in the transfer portal will be visiting campus early next week.
On Wednesday, Matt Zeintz of On3 Sports reported that Marshall transfer running back A.J. Turner will stop by campus following a visit weekend to Minnesota.
Turner spent the last three years in Huntington with the Thundering Herd and entered the transfer portal after Charles Huff’s departure for Southern Miss. After playing in just eleven games in the first two seasons in a reserve role, he burst onto the scene this year running for 864 yards and six touchdowns on 101 carries, averaging 8.3 yards per carry. He also caught eight passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns this year and did return a handful of kicks last year.
He’ll be joined by Charlotte transfer kicker Stephen Rusnak, who announced via social media on Thursday he will visit campus early next week.
Rusnak spent one year at Charlotte after spending the first three years of his career in a reserve role for Michigan State. After not starting the first two games of the season at placekicker, he took over those duties alongside the kickoff duties and put together an amazing season from there. He hit all 25 of his extra points and all eleven of his field goals, including three from 50+.
This is only the start of what should be a wild next few weeks of portal craziness in Chapel Hill.
