For a second straight day, the Tar Heels received news on the 2025 recruiting trail when two of their targets in the class will take their official visit to campus.
4✮ WR Micah Matthews and unranked EDGE Herbert Scroggins III both announced via social media on Thursday that they will be officially visiting Chapel Hill in the month of June. Scroggins III joins the loaded group that will be on campus for the weekend of June 7th, while Matthews will be on campus the next weekend along with 3✮ EDGE Taeshawn Alston.
When it comes to Matthews, the Tar Heels have been a contender in his race for a while now and look like they’ll be a part of the battle till its conclusion. Virginia Tech is the other team that he has already set an official visit with, as he’ll be in Blacksburg the week prior to his stop in Chapel Hill, and they are currently seen as the favorites in his recruitment. Kentucky could also be a factor here, as could Clemson, who he will visit in early March hoping to get a football scholarship offer from to go along with the one he already owns from their baseball program.
As for Scroggins III, the Tar Heels appear to be in a pretty good spot as the first school to get an official visit from him. The Georgia edge rusher’s recruitment has really blossomed in the last month with schools like Miami, Georgia Tech, Texas A&M and Auburn offering him alongside the Tar Heels. He will likely take official visits elsewhere, but it is a pretty promising sign for Ted Monachino and this Tar Heel staff that they have made an impression on him this early.
With these two prospects confirming their official visits, the team now has eight of their targets that have set theirs so far with more expected to come.
