The Tar Heels are off to an auspicious start on the 2025 recruiting trail, but one of their most important targets in the class might be slipping away.
2025 4✮ EDGE Bryce Davis is a guy the new defensive staff had to work hard to reenter the race for after the coaching changes this offseason. His visit to the Tar Heels home basketball matchup with the Duke Blue Devils back in early February put them back in the running and they have been able to lock in an official visit with him for early June. The fact that they are one of the three to have an official trip set is big, especially since he told Chad Simmons of On3 Sports back in late February that “there is probably a good chance that I am committed to one of [those schools] by the summer”.
While this all seems promising, the On3 Sports prediction on Monday from the site’s VP Steve Wiltfong is not. Wiltfong predicts that the No. 3 player in the state of North Carolina will be heading to Georgia with a pretty strong confidence level of 60 out of 100. Wiltfong, the former 247Sports Director of Football Recruiting, has been as accurate as anyone in the country at predicting where recruits will land, correctly predicting 4,171 of the 4,555 predictions that he casted for the site over the last twelve years.
Wiltfong isn’t the only recruiting expert leaning in this direction when it comes to Davis. About a month ago, Rivals’ Adam Friedman wrote a piece ranking the contenders for Davis and has Georgia atop the list in large part because of his connection with their current defensive tackle Jamaal Jarrett, who was his teammate a couple years ago.
At this point, just getting Davis on campus for that official visit would feel big, but even then, there would still be a lot of work to do to jump ahead of Georgia and Clemson, who appear to be the main two battling it out right now.
