The Tar Heels are adding their last couple of coaches to Bill Belichick’s staff and the latest addition is another family member.

As first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports, the Tar Heels are adding Brian Belichick, Bill’s youngest son, to their defensive staff. Brian will coach safeties for the team alongside Armond Williams who was named the defensive backs earlier this offseason.

Brian spent the last five years as the safeties coach for the Patriots after he was elevated to that role in the offseason of 2020. Prior to that, he spent three seasons as a general coaching assistant for the team under his father from 2017 to 2019. He began his professional career in 2016 with the team as a scouting assistant. He is a two time Super Bowl winner as part of the staff, helping the team win Super Bowls LI and LIII.

This is another really nice addition to the Tar Heels defensive staff. While some may just see this as another nepotism hire, Brian is a guy that brings NFL coaching experience with him and his track record is a rather successful one, as well. This is also a guy who has a strong connection to defensive coordinator Stephen Belichick and should know exactly what he is looking for from the safeties in his defense.
