Just a few days after it was reported that the Tar Heels would be appearing on this year’s offseason edition of ‘Hard Knocks’, the deal was supposedly off.

According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, talks between UNC and the HBO show have broken down after the sides failed to reach an agreement.

According to Jones, the divide between the two sides centers around creative control, something that will be a major contention point for teams moving forward with the show after what was shown from the Giants front office last season.

Jones says that sources told CBS Sports that the program is wanting some sort of all-access, behind-the-scenes production show because they are excited about the exposure it will have for the program.

From this perspective, it makes plenty of sense why the team would want to still showcase the program in this fashion. This is also a blow for a fanbase that was excited to get a look at how Bill Belichick is transitioning the program to his mindset from Mack Brown’s and learn more about the players on this overhauled roster. The good news is that it takes some of the pressure off of a program that has struggled with attention and expectations in the past, at least for now It will be interesting to see how hard the UNC football front office continues to push for a different all-access show because there seems to be a lot of motivation to get that done.
