The transfer portal entry deadline for non-playoff players takes place on Saturday night and the Tar Heels have just lost their fifteenth outgoing transfer.
According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, true freshman linebacker Ashton Woods has entered his name into the transfer portal. Woods will have three years of eligibility remaining wherever he eventually lands.
Woods, the No. 50 linebacker in the 2024 recruiting class, played 45 snaps between defense and special teams in six games this season. He took one snap on defense in both the NC Central and James Madison, but took the rest of his reps on special teams. He did not register a tackle.
His entry into the portal doesn’t come as much of a shock after the team’s retention of Amare Campbell and addition of Khmori House which left him in a position to remain buried on the depth chart this upcoming season behind them and the duo of Michael Short and Caleb LaVallee, who filled out the two deep this year. The room is still in really good shape for the future as well, especially if 2025 3✮ EDGE Kamden Laudenslager makes the conversion to linebacker like he did this year at the high school level.
