Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Transfer EDGE Target Returning to School

Austin Perryman- Auburn University Athletics

The Tar Heels have had their eyes on a lot of high-profile transfers, including a former in-state recruit that entered the portal earlier this week that many felt they were positioned very well to land his commitment. Earlier this evening, though, he pulled his name out of the portal leaving the Tar Heels to look elsewhere for help on the edge.

According to a report from On3 Sports transfer portal reporter Hayes Fawcett, Auburn transfer edge rusher Amaris Williams has withdrawn his name from the portal and will stay with the Tigers. The true freshman had officially entered his name into the portal and had received interest from many of the top teams alongside the Tar Heels.

With him back on The Plains, the Tar Heels are now left searching for help at edge rusher elsewhere. The good news is that the team has already landed one commit out of the transfer portal at the spot earlier today in the form of Delaware transfer Melkart Abou-Jaoude. The team is also being linked to Mercer transfer Brayden Manley, who the staff officially offered earlier today as well as Elon transfer Kahmari Brown, who was on campus last Friday. Don’t be shocked if the team is linked to others in the portal, especially if Manley and Brown go elsewhere.
