The Tar Heels are in search of a big man in the transfer portal and today has been filled with news about who they are targeting. Earlier today, we told you that the team has been in contact with Kentucky transfer Aaron Bradshaw, but that isn’t even the biggest fish the team is going for at the position right now.
Oumar Ballo, the No. 1 big man and No. 1 overall player in the portal according to 247Sports, is a guy the team has also been in contact with and is nearing a visit with. He told On3 Sports’ Joe Tipton that the Tar Heels are one of five teams that he is planning to visit before making his decision. Indiana, Louisville and Kansas State all have dates set with him next week while Florida continues to wait for a date just like Carolina.
Ballo would be a perfect fit to fill the role that Armando Bacot leaves behind if the team is looking for a similar player. This season, he averaged 12.9 points per game, 10.1 rebounds per game and 1.3 blocks per game on the way to first team All-Pac-12 and first All-Pac-12 defensive team honors. He had 20 double-doubles this season, something that the Tar Heels have become accustomed to from their man in the middle during Bacot’s time on campus. This seems like the perfect fit at the five spot if the staff wants to build the team similar to this season, something that could certainly be in the cards if RJ Davis and Harrison Ingram were to return.
