That’s right, the Tar Heel football program is hitting the national spotlight this offseason.
As first reported by Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports and later confirmed by UNC general manager Michael Lombardi, the HBO documentary series ‘Hard Knocks’ will be following the program in the offseason edition after all 31 eligible NFL teams turned down the opportunity. Glasspiegel says that the Giants ‘Hard Knocks’ experience last year, particularly what they showed with general manager Joe Schoen is the main reason NFL teams decided against it.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, certain details are still being ironed out but this has been something that has been in the works for a while.
This is an interesting move for Belichick and Lombardi in their first year at Carolina, but will be a great look at the program. This will give the program even more exposure for an offseason that has been full of it and will give recruits insight into what it will be like to play for Belichick and this staff. For fans, this will be a special look at the transition of the program from Mack Brown to Belichick and will show the level of work and competition that he is bringing to the program. The one drawback is what this added attention could do to the team, but this is just part of it when it comes to having Belichick as your head coach.
