The Tar Heels are beginning the task of rebuilding their roster after losing 16 scholarship players to the transfer portal in the last five days and one of their latest targets is a transfer defensive back from UCLA.

According to a report from 247Sports Blair Angulo, the Tar Heels have a visit set for Monday with UCLA transfer cornerback Khristian Dunbar-Hawkins. He will have four years of eligibility remaining wherever he eventually lands.

In his lone season in Westwood, Dunbar-Hawkins, a 3✮ prospect in the 2024 class according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings, did not see the field after joining the team in January and going through spring ball with them. Back in 2023 as a senior at the high school level, he finished with 46 total tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery for Tustin High School in Tustin, CA. Prior that, he spent 2022 with Mater Dei, where he had 14 total tackles and one pass defensed in just eight games.

This would be a solid addition that would help the depth for the team at both corner and nickelback. The thing that you’re hoping for is that another small move like this means that the team is relatively set in the secondary and is focusing on spending bigger money on bigger areas of need.
