The Tar Heels have added two transfers on the offensive line so far and it doesn’t appear as if they are done just yet.
According to On3 Sports reporter Steve Wiltfong, the Tar Heels will host Prairie View A&M transfer offensive tackle William Boone the weekend of January 2nd per his agent, Austin Pfenninger. He will have two years of eligibility remaining.
Boone, who measures at 6’7, 340 lbs., spent this season with the Panthers and had an outstanding year across the board. He played 782 snaps while starting all 12 games for the team, receiving a 62.3 run block grade, a 78.0 pass block grade and a 69.0 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. In 425 pass protection reps, he didn’t allow a single sack and gave up only 11 total pressures. Prior to Prairie View A&M, Boone spent time at Kilgore College and New Mexico Military Institute.
It’s clear that Belichick and company are focused on building the depth in this offensive line room with guys who are capable of competing for starting jobs. Boone, who played right tackle for almost single snap this year, will likely push incumbent right tackle starter Trevyon Green for that job after a rough year there for him in pass protection.
