The Tar Heels haven’t publicly set many official visits in the 2026 class, but over the weekend they did get one set with one of the top defensive players in the state of North Carolina.

As first reported on Friday by Anna Adams of 247Sports, UNC is one of four schools that have locked in an official visit with 2026 3✮ S D’Various Surratt. The Tar Heels will get the first shot with him on the weekend of April 11th while NC State (June 6th), Duke (June 13th) and Virginia Tech (June 20th) will all get their shots later this summer.

Surratt, the No. 523 overall prospect and No. 45 safety in the country according to 247Sports Sports Composite Player Rankings, is coming off of his junior season at Crest High School in Shelby, NC. He finished the year with 43 total tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, four interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown and four pass breakups. Prior to that, as a sophomore in 2023, he finished with 57 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, five interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns and six pass deflections. He began his career back in the fall of 2022 when he had 58 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, two interceptions, three pass deflections and one fumble recovery.

When it comes to the Tar Heels chances to land him, they have some work to do in the next few months. As of right now, NC State appears to hold a significant advantage under former Tar Heel defensive back coach Charlton Warren, but there is time for this staff to make a push if they want to.
