It was a news packed day around Tar Heel athletics and one of the pieces of news that many may have completely missed was the fact that the Tar Heels have scheduled a future home-and-home with Purdue on the football side of things.
According to a report from FBSchedules.com who obtained a copy of the contract from Tar Heel athletic department confirming the series between the Tar Heels and Boilermakers. The home-and-home is set to begin on September 11, 2027 when the Tar Heels will travel to West Lafayette and the return game in Chapel Hill is set for September 13, 2031. The meeting at Purdue is set to be the first meeting between the two programs despite both programs existing more than 115 years.
With the addition of this home-and-home, the Tar Heels 2027 out-of-conference slate is tentatively set, as they are set to face the Boilermakers and the Connecticut Huskies on the road and welcome the FCS North Alabama Lions and the Central Florida Knight to Kenan Stadium. As for the 2031 slate, the Boilermakers join the Liberty Flames as teams that are scheduled to travel to Chapel Hill in that season’s out-of-conference slate.
