The Tar Heels have made some major waves in the portal in terms of the number of commitments so far and they are looking to continue that. On Wednesday, the team received multiple crystal ball predictions for two targets, including one of the top linebackers available.
The team received three crystal ball predictions early in the day to land East Carolina defensive line transfer CJ Mims following his decommitment from Wake Forest. Mims had committed to the Demon Deacons on Sunday when Dave Clawson was still in place as the team’s head coach, but with his resignation on Monday, his recruitment was opened back up.
Mims played in all 12 of the team’s games this season as a rotational piece on the defensive line for the Pirates. In 339 snaps, he finished with 23 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, eight total quarterback pressures and a forced fumble. He played in 12 games in 2023 as well in the same role, tallying 14 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for a loss, 0.5 sacks, 2 total quarterback pressures and a forced fumble.
Later in the day, the team received a couple of crystal ball predictions for Washington linebacker transfer Khmori House, who officially entered the transfer portal late last night. These predictions come after it was reported earlier today that House will take an official visit to Chapel Hill on Friday and Saturday.
House played in all 12 games of his true freshman season with the Huskies, which included five starts. He finished the regular season with 35 total tackles, 1.0 tackle for loss, 0.0 sacks, eight total quarterback pressures, an interception and four passes defensed in 317 snaps.
Adding these two commitments would be very helpful for the middle of this Tar Heel defense which has to replace three of the four starters from this season.
