Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Pick Up DIII OL

Muhlenberg College Athletics

We have been asking for the Tar Heels to get some help along the offensive line and on Monday they did just that in an interesting way.

Division III transfer Zach Greenberg announced via social media earlier this evening that he will be transferring to Carolina. The commitment comes after he officially visited campus on Sunday. He will have two years of eligibility remaining when he arrives in the summer.

Greenberg spent the last three years at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, PA. In his three seasons with Muhlenberg, he was a two time all-region and all-conference honoree. This year, he earned first team honors in both respects as part of one of the best offensive lines at the DIII level that allowed just eight sacks all season and paved the way for an offense that averaged 444.1 yards of total offense and 176.0 rushing yards per game.

Greenberg is projected to move inside guard for the Tar Heels, which helps boost the team’s depth inside, but doesn’t help them in what should be a search for starters at the guard spot if Willie Lampkin is moving over to center. The staff has added three offensive linemen so far in the portal and so far, only one looks like he will be a guaranteed starter. That means the staff needs to keep looking for help, especially if they don’t like what they’re seeing in spring camp.
