For a second straight day, the Tar Heels have received a commitment from a 2026 3✮ cornerback out of the state of California.
2026 3✮ CB Justin Lewis announced via social media on Monday that he was committing to the Tar Heels following an offer from Armond Hawkins and the team on Saturday. He also held offers from Arizona State, Colorado, Louisville, Miami, Nebraska, SMU, Syracuse and Washington.
Lewis, the No. 536 overall prospect and No. 44 cornerback in the 2026 recruiting class, just concluded his junior season at Rancho Cucamonga High School in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. In his first season of varsity football, Lewis tallied 11 total tackles, two pass deflections and a forced fumble in six games and earned second team All-Baseline League and was nominated as an all-state player for his efforts.
Lewis has limited film, but there is a lot to like about him. At 6’2, 165 lbs., he has good size for an outside corner and shows it on tape. The best thing about his game is just how physical he plays as a corner. He does a good job of getting his hands on receivers at the line of scrimmage and when he tackles, he hits with a purpose. His straight line speed is outstanding and allows him to recover if he gets beat and run down big plays down the field to make plays. His ability to play the football is strong and with more playing time, the interceptions should come. The biggest question mark with him is why he didn’t play more than he did because what we saw from him was extremely promising. His senior season should tell us a lot about his floor and ceiling, but this is a guy worth investing in right now based on the limited film we have seen.
With his commitment, the Tar Heels have three commitments in the 2026 class and has ascended to No. 31 overall and No. 7 in the ACC.
