The Tar Heels have yet to land a commitment on the 2025 recruiting trail during this important month of June and have had to watch some major targets head elsewhere. That continued earlier this afternoon when one of the team’s top defensive line targets spurned them to stay home.
2025 3✮ DL Christian Evans announced via social media that he is committing to in-state Virginia Tech over the Tar Heels, Virginia and Oklahoma. This commitment comes after he was in Blacksburg over the weekend for his official visit. He was in Chapel Hill back on the weekend on May 31st and also took an official trip to Virginia. His trip to Norman that was scheduled for this weekend has been canceled.
Evans commitment to the Hokies shouldn’t come as much of a shock, but it does leave the team with just one target remaining at the position in this class. The good news is that the team already has one defensive tackle committed to the class in the form of 3✮ Devin Ancrum, meaning even if they can’t flip 4✮ London Merritt from Ohio State. Ideally, the team would be able to add another player to the room in this class with both Kevin Hester Jr. and Jahvaree Ritzie departing, but that is now far from a guarantee with Evans’ commitment.
