The Tar Heels were hoping to add one last piece to their 2025 class in the form of 4✮ CB J’Vari Flowers, but, as they found out on Monday evening, he will be heading elsewhere to play his college football.

As first reported by John Garcia Jr. of Rivals, Flowers, the No. 82 overall prospect and No. 12 cornerback prospect in the 2025 class, has committed to Florida. He chose the Gators over offers from UNC, Auburn, Georgia, Miami and Syracuse.

Flowers, who was originally a member of the 2026 class, reclassified back in late January setting the stage for a two month race to the finish line for him. He released his top six schools in late February and took official visits to each of them before revealing his decision earlier this evening.

This shouldn’t come as much of a shock for the Tar Heel staff considering they entered the race very late for the reclassified corner. With the bow officially on the 2025 class, the Tar Heels finish with 29 commitments and the No. 41 overall class and the No. 9 class in the ACC. This does mean, however, that the team will not bring in a cornerback in this year's recruiting class, meaning it will need to be crucial for the team to hit that spot hard in the 2026 class.
