The Tar Heels haven’t been able to land a wide receiver in the 2025 class and after Thursday, it seems more than possible that they won’t land one at all.
2025 4✮ WR Malik Clark announced his commitment to Florida State shortly after noon earlier today. While it was a shocking move that he landed with the Noles, the momentum prior to the commitments was in favor of South Carolina, not the Tar Heels after they were in such a great spot with him back in April.
Missing on Clark is a tough blow for the Tar Heels after it seemed like they were counting on him being their receiver in this class. With him off the board, the Tar Heels have just two targets remaining at the position in the class and they are not in the driver’s seat for either one.
Fellow 4✮ Shamarius Peterkin, who is less than a month away from announcing his commitment on August 16th, should now assume the spot as the team’s top target. He named the Tar Heels as one of his final three back on June 29th following his official visit to campus earlier in the month. While the Tar Heels seemed to help themselves during that visit, NC State has put themselves firmly in the lead for him and it going to be difficult to catch him.
3✮ Evan Haynes looks to be the more attainable option of the two, but there are a host of teams that are still in on him. The Tar Heels hosted him back on the first weekend of June after establishing themselves well in the spring, but since that visit, Colorado has made a huge move with him. He will announce his commitment next week, meaning that if the Tar Heels are going to find a way to land him, they have to work quickly.
