Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Miss on 2026 Dual-Sport Athlete

The 2026 recruiting class is a talent rich one in the state of North Carolina, but the top ranked player will be heading out of state.


On Saturday afternoon, 2026 dual-sport in-state athlete Kendre Harrison announced his commitment to Oregon over the Tar Heels and Tennessee. Harrison is the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 1 tight end on the football side and the No. 51 overall prospect and the No. 6 center on the basketball side of things according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings.


This season, as a junior, Harrison split his time between Providence Day School in Charlotte and his hometown Reidsville High School. In the three games he played for Providence Day, Harrison caught 13 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown, while also racking up 8 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and five quarterback hurries on the defensive side of the ball. After the move back to Reidsville, Harrison caught 33 passes for 555 yards and eight touchdowns and tallied 12 total tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in eight games.


Harrison is a dual-sport athlete who also holds an offer from Hubert Davis and company. He is currently ranked as the No. 51 overall prospect and No. 6 center in the 2026 basketball recruiting cycle according to 247Sports Composite Player Rankings. Last year, as a sophomore at Reidsville,  he also led the Rams to the 2A state title, averaging 19.4 points, 15.1 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game. He was named a first team all-state member by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association and HighSchoolOT.com and a first team all-conference member as well. The year prior as a true freshman, he jumped onto the scene by averaging 21.5 points, 15.1 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game, earning second team all-state and first all-conference honors.
