Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels Miss on 2025 In-State EDGE

The 2025 recruiting cycle has not been kind to the Tar Heels in the home state and that trend continued on Tuesday evening when another one of the state’s top prospects spurned them to head out of state.

2025 3✮ EDGE Taeshawn Alston announced via a ceremony at his high school in Henderson, NC that he is committing to South Carolina over UNC, Rutgers and others.  The Gamecock paced the way in this recruitment nearly the entire time with the Tar Heels as the biggest threat the entire. The Tar Heels appeared to make some headway after they hosted him a couple of weekends ago, but clearly it wasn’t enough to top what Shane Beamer and his staff had shown him earlier in the month in his trip to Columbia.

With Alston off the board, the Tar Heels have just one target that they hosted for an official visit that remains uncommitted in the form of 3✮ Herbert Scroggins III. Scroggins III was scheduled to announce his commitment on Tuesday evening, but decided to postpone that announcement over the weekend. Auburn is the favorite to land his services, though, with Miami as the one possible obstacle, meaning the Tar Heels are likely done at the position. 4✮ Austin Alexander and 3✮ Kamden Laudenslager still gives the team a very solid haul in a position room that will need to be replenished at season’s end.
