The transfer decision are rolling in fast and furious here for the Tar Heels on this first Monday after the disappointing finish to the regular season in Raleigh on Saturday night.
Just a short time ago, it was announced by Inside Carolina that junior quarterback Jefferson Boaz will be entering the transfer portal for the final two years of eligibility that he has remaining. Boaz is the son of former Tar Heel punt Jay Boaz, who played at Carolina under Mack Brown from 1991-94.
The younger Boaz was never able to establish himself as a backup quarterback in Chapel Hill after opting to try to compete at that spot instead of moving to tight end like the team originally planned for him. He saw action in just two games in his time at Carolina, completing both passes that he threw for a total of six yards.
Boaz leaving isn’t a huge shock. Even with Drake Maye most likely leaving, both Conner Harrell and Tad Hudson were expected to remain in front of the depth chart with more years of eligibility left than him. The team will also add Michael Merdinger to the room for next year and could be in the transfer market, as well, so the depth should be fine here.
The last two days are just part of what many expect to be a sizable group of transfers in the next couple weeks. We’ll take you through all of those here on the Heel Tough Blog and break them down further on the Heel Tough Blog Podcast, as well, so make sure you are keeping an eye on our Heel Tough Blog Facebook and Twitter pages.
