For a second straight day, the Tar Heels have lost a depth piece to the transfer portal on the offensive side of the ball.
As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, redshirt freshman running back Jordan Louie has officially entered his name into the transfer portal. He will have three years of eligibility remaining.
In two seasons with the Tar Heel program, Louie appeared in just one game, taking one snap for the team in last year’s game against Campbell. That one snap resulted in the lone carry of his career which went for no gain.
Louie's departure could be impactful for the depth of a Tar Heel running back room that could undergo a lot of change this offseason. Omarion Hampton is almost certainly bound for the NFL after another outstanding season and fellow senior Darwin Barlow might be out of eligibility if the NCAA doesn’t approve another year for him. Caleb Hood is planning on redshirting to conserve his final year of eligibility, but with Mack Brown’s departure, there is a question as to whether or not that final year will be played in Chapel Hill. That could leave true freshman Davion Gause as the only possible returning scholarship back, someone that the new staff has to prioritize when they get on campus. The team does have 3✮ Demon June Jr. scheduled to join the program as well, but the depth in this room is certainly in flux right now.
