The second transfer window of the offseason opened this morning and for a second straight day, the Tar Heels are losing a member of the defensive back room.
As first reported by Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, redshirt freshman Ayden Duncanson has officially entered the portal after announcing via social media last Thursday that he would be entering. He will have four years of eligibility remaining wherever he lands.
Ducanson departs Chapel Hill after playing in just two games as a true freshman. He played seven snaps in the game against Campbell, including six at cornerback when the game got out of hand. His only other action came against Clemson, where he played two snaps, one on defense and one on special teams.
This move from Duncanson shouldn’t come as much of a shock considering we have not heard about him this spring the way we have with the other young guys in that room. Fellow classmate Ty Adams looks to be the guy that has taken the bigger leap between the two and he also looks like he may have been passed over by Tyrane Stewart, the JUCO transfer who has thoroughly impressed the staff over the last few weeks.
Losing two corners in consecutive days may feel concerning depthwise on the outside, but the good news is that the team has a lot of versatile pieces in the defensive backfield that should be able to plug any holes that may pop up.
