The Tar Heels’ 2025 recruiting class lost its first commitment on Monday night and it came from a bit of a surprising place.m
2025 3✮ TE Logan Farrell, one of the longest tenured commits in the class, announced earlier this evening that he was flipping to Illinois.
Farrell, the No. 36 tight end in the 2025 class, made the decision following a trip to Champaign over the weekend. The Arlington Heights, IL native had been committed to UNC since November of 2023.
While his decommitment may not seem like a big deal, it is when you factor in the other decommitments that could be on the horizon in the near future. A couple of weeks ago, 4✮ TE commit Marshall Pritchett Jr. took a visit to Alabama and since then he has received multiple forecasts to flip his commitment to Kalen DeBoer and company. If that was to happen, it would leave the Tar Heels without a tight end commitment in this class, something that is far from ideal with two current members of that room destined to depart after the season.
The decommitment drops an already struggling class down to just 13 commits and has them sitting No. 54 overall and No. 14 in the ACC in the 247Sports Composite team rankings.
