For the first time in the transfer portal era, the Tar Heels have landed a commitment from one of their Triangle rivals.
As you may have been sitting down to Christmas dinner with your family earlier this evening, the team was receiving the news that they have landed a transfer commitment from former NC State defensive back Jakeen Harris. Harris, who entered the transfer portal back on November 29th, announced via social media his commitment to play for Charlton Warren in his final season of eligibility.
Harris spent the last five years in Raleigh bouncing between safety and slot corner, but missed most of this season due to an injury suffered in the team's opener against Connecticut. Prior to that, though, Harris was a key member of the secondary in the prior three seasons, playing at least 300 snaps in each of those years and starting 21 of the 35 games that the team played during that stretch. He finished his Wolfpack career with 167 total tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions and eleven passes defensed.
His addition gives the safety room some much-needed experience on the back end with all that the team is losing in the offseason to graduation. His commitment may very well be the last transfer addition of this window with no other public targets at this time.
