The Tar Heels are looking to get the ball rolling in the transfer portal again after a quiet couple of weeks during the holidays and they might be able to do that soon.

According to a report from On3 Sports transfer portal insider Pete Nakos, Chattanooga wide receiver transfer Javin Whatley has narrowed his list of schools down to three following his visit this weekend to Chapel Hill. The Tar Heels are joined by Arizona and Memphis as the teams remaining in the competition to land his commitment.

Whatley spent the first four years of his college career with Mocs where he caught 140 passes for 2,125 yards and 18 touchdowns over the past three seasons. He broke on the scene back in 2022 when he caught 29 passes for 451 yards and three touchdowns. His best season came in 2023 as a sophomore as he hauled in 55 catches for 977 yards and nine touchdowns. This season he wasn’t nearly as productive, but still produced very solid numbers, catching 56 passes for 697 yards and six touchdowns.

The Tar Heels seem motivated to bring in a veteran slot receiver to pair with Kobe Paysour and the other young guys on the outside. Based on the fact that Whatley cut his schools down just hours after concluding his trip to Carolina, there is reason to believe they should be confident in their chances to land his commitment when it is all said and done.
