For a third straight day, the Tar Heels have reached into the transfer portal and landed a commitment.
According to Rivals.com, South Carolina transfer tight end Connor Cox has committed to the Tar Heels following a visit to Chapel Hill yesterday. Cox will have three years of eligibility remaining when he gets to campus in January.
Cox, who was a 3✮ recruit in the 2023 class, was sparingly used in the Gamecocks offense in his two seasons with the team. He played in just nine games with the team, catching one pass for nine yards and a touchdown in 40 snaps.
This is a promising addition to a tight end room that is undergoing a lot of change this offseason. Junior Bryson Nesbit is expected to be on his way to the NFL while John Copenhaver has exhausted his eligibility, leaving Jake Johnson as the only player in that room that has taken significant snaps at the college level. Cox may not have a lot of experience but there is plenty of upside here and he will have a legitimate chance to thrive under Freddie Kitchens, who has done some great work in his two seasons as the tight ends coach in Chapel Hill.
