The Tar Heels dominated the state of Virginia in the 2022 class and they closed that dominance out on Wednesday night when they landed 4✮ WR Andre Greene Jr.’s commitment in a CBSSports HQ special. Greene chose the Tar Heels over the Clemson Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs and others, giving them a second significant win over Clemson in the class and their seventh commitment from the state.
Greene, the No. 71 overall prospect and No. 9 wide receiver in the 2022 class according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, just completed his senior season at St. Christopher’s High School. Greene is exactly what the Tar Heels need to add to this wide receiving corps right now. The team is currently lacking that player that can consistently win the 50/50 balls and that is what Greene has done best at the high school. On film, he is constantly making plays in the red zone, which the Tar Heels are in need of in the red zone passing game. His big frame helps that, as do his reliable hands and he does a tremendous job of high pointing the football even with defenders draped on him. His film is littered with one-handed grabs, showing off his great concentration and ability to simply make tough catches. He does a good job of winning off the line of scrimmage and he has good speed in large part due to his long strides. He is a perfect fit for what this Tar Heel receiving corps needs right now.
This closes out an amazing cycle in the state of Virginia for the Tar Heels. Greene's commitment gives the Tar Heels commitments from four of the top five prospects in the state and gives them seven from the top 20 prospects in the state. The staff as a whole has done a tremendous job in the state during that time, but Dré Bly is the coach that has been leading the charge and deserves to be praised the most for the success that the program has found there.
With the commitment, the Tar Heels now have the No. 9 class in the 2022 cycle and the class solidifies the fact the Tar Heels spot atop the ACC rankings.
