Kendre Harrison is one of the best high athletes that the state of North Carolina has ever seen and it’s why he is the top priority for Mack Brown and company in this class.
On Monday night, Harrison, a 5✮ tight end and 4✮ power forward revealed his top six schools to On3 Sports’ Chad Simmons. The Tar Heels are the only in-state school still alive for him and Florida State, Miami, Oregon, Penn State and Tennessee join them.
The Tar Heels have established themselves as a serious contender early in this race and have to feel like they have a legitimate shot to pull this off. Right now, On3 Sports Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Tar Heels as a pretty significant favorite with a 38% chance to land him. Hubert Davis and the basketball program will play a big role in his recruitment and it appears that the staff is also making him a priority which would give the Tar Heels a massive advantage because of the prestige of Carolina basketball.
This past season, Harrison helped lead Reidsville to the 2A football championship, catching 62 passes for 940 yards and sixteen touchdowns. He was also a major contributor on the defensive side of the ball as well, racking up 70 total tackles, 17.0 tackles for loss, 8.0 sacks, 30 quarterback hurries, seven passes defensed, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. He was named first team all-state by HighSchoolOT.com as well as first team all-conference by his high school league.
On the basketball side, he also led the Rams to the 2A state title, averaging 19.4 points, 15.1 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game. He was named a first team all-state member by the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association and HighSchoolOT.com and a first team all-conference member as well. The year prior as a true freshman, he jumped onto the scene by averaging 21.5 points, 15.1 rebounds and 4.4 blocks per game while earning second team all-state and first all-conference honors.
