After the commitments of Clifford Omoruyi and Adou Thiero to other schools over the weekend, the Tar Heels coaching staff has had to completely readjust their approach in the transfer portal. Part of that reset is identifying some new targets and as of this morning, the team has one in their crosshairs.
Both Inside Carolina and Tar Heel Illustrated have confirmed that the team is in contact with Vanderbilt transfer forward Ven-Allen Lubin. Lubin, who is 6’8, 226 lbs., has the body style of someone who plays the stretch four position, but his game is built more for the big man spot, which was where the Commodores played him after he transferred from Notre Dame.
Lubin put together some nice production out of that role this year, averaging 12.3 points, 6.3 rebounds per game and 1.0 block per game. He thrived in the post and on the right elbow, shooting 53.3% from inside the arc, but he does not have the shooting touch from the outside to handle playing on the perimeter like the Tar Heels want their four man to do. He also doesn’t have the ability to defend on the perimeter the way the Tar Heels would need him to if he was going to play the four. Hopefully, the staff is looking at him as someone who pairs well with Jalen Washington at the five.
