The Tar Heels are furiously searching to add some transfer help in their backfield and with many of their initial targets off the board to other schools, the team is now being linked to a new player at the position.
According to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports, Bill Belichick and the Tar Heel front office staff has been in contact with Utah State running back transfer Rahsul Faison. He entered the portal officially on Saturday following the NCAA’s injunction that allowed for an extra year of eligibility for seniors who were formerly JUCO transfers. The Tar Heels are joined by California, Cincinnati, Florida State, Georgia, Iowa State, Kansas State, Kentucky, UCF and Utah as those who have contacted him in the last 24 hours.
Faison spent the last two years in Logan after transferring in from Snow College where he spent the 2022 season. In his first season with the Aggies, Faison played in all thirteen games and ran for 736 yards and five touchdowns on 118 carries and caught 11 passes for 52 yards while having to split carries with Davon Booth. This year, as the lead back, he ran for 1,109 yards and eight touchdowns on 198 carries and caught 22 passes for 99 yards on his way to second team All-Mountain West honors.
The Tar Heels have swung and missed on a lot of their top targets so far, but Faison could be the perfect type of player to pair with Davion Gause this upcoming season in the backfield.
