Heel Tough Blog: Tar Heels in Contact with NC State WR Transfer

The Tar Heels landed two players in the transfer portal last year from rival NC State and they might be interested in an even bigger fish from the team this year.

On3 Sports transfer portal reporter Pete Nakos reported that Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels have been in contact with Wolfpack transfer wide receiver KC Concepcion, the No. 15 overall prospect and the No. 6 wide receiver in the portal according to 247Sports Transfer Portal Player Rankings. Concepcion will have two years of eligibility remaining wherever he eventually ends up.

Concepcion has been busy with visits since entering the portal, stopping by Colorado, Miami and Texas A&M thus far. According to Nakos, he is planning to visit Chapel Hill sometime after the dead period ends on January 1st and is someone that Belichick and general manager Michael Lombardi value and Concepcion is open to the possibility of playing for the legendary NFL head coach. Other schools that he will consider visiting in January are Florida State, Penn State and South Carolina.

Concepcion started his career at NC State with a bang in 2023, catching 71 passes for 839 yards and ten touchdowns while adding 320 yards on the ground. This season, he took a major step back, catching just 53 passes for 460 yards and six touchdowns and rushing for just 36 yards. The belief from many schools is that the struggles this year were linked to the quarterback issues that the team dealt with for most of the season and that in the right system, he can get back to the type of production that he had as a true freshman.

The Tar Heels aren’t waiting around for Concepcion, though, as the team made an addition at wide receiver in the form of Michigan State transfer slot receiver Aziah Johnson. Some have wondered if Johnson’s signing means that Concepcion’s spot has been taken, but the latter is simply too talented to turn away if he is wanting to come to Chapel Hill.
