The Tar Heels are searching for their scoring guard and their next target to answer that need might be a transfer guard from Chattanooga.
According to a report from Sam Kayser of 24/7 High School Hoops, the Tar Heels are one of 24 teams that have been in contact with guard Honor Huff. Huff, who is currently an unranked member of the portal by 247Sports, entered the transfer portal earlier in the day on Saturday.
Huff, a former unranked prospect in the 2021 class, spent the last two years of his career at Chattanooga after originally beginning his career with VMI. Last year, as a sophomore, he averaged 17.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists, while shooting 43% from the field and 38% from 3-point range on his way to being named a member of the second team All-Southern Conference team. This year, he averaged 15.2 points, 1.8 rebounds and 2.3 assist, while shooting 42% from the field and 42% from 3-point range on the way to first team All-Southern Conference honors and a regular season conference title.
Huff would be a welcome addition for the Tar Heels, especially with what he can do on the perimeter. He is one of the best 3-point shooters available in the portal and considering no one on the current roster made more than 64 shots from the arc this season, he would quickly become the team’s most trusted shooters. His ability to simply score the ball and play on or off the ball is something that the Tar Heels are sorely in need of, so he should be welcomed with open arms if there is mutual interest.
