The Tar Heels are continuing to piece together their front office staff and they made their latest addition on Thursday.
As first reported by Inside Carolina earlier this afternoon, Taylor Edwards is joining Bill Belichick’s staff as part of the player personnel department.
Edwards was the Director of Player Personnel for the South Carolina Gamecocks from 2021-24, but resigned following the program self-reporting a Level III NCAA violation. The violation reportedly stemmed from communication with a four-year student athlete prior to his official entry into the transfer portal.
Prior to time in Columbia, Edwards was the Director of Recruiting Operations for Maryland under Mike Locksley. In his two seasons he helped the team finish with the 31st ranked class in 2020 and the 20th ranked class in 2021.
Prior to that, he spent one season as the Director of Recruiting at Arkansas following a one year stint at Alabama on Nick Saban’s staff as a Player Personnel Assistant.
His career in college athletics began back in 2013 as an assistant in personnel and operations at Jacksonville State. He would make the move to UAB as the Director of Recruiting, a role that he would also hold in his next stop at Samford prior to his arrival in Tuscaloosa.
This hire is definitely a risk considering the NCAA violation last year, but considering the success that he had at his previous stops, it feels like a worthwhile move.
