The Tar Heels have been pushing hard to flip one of the top in-state players in the 2026 class and on Sunday they took another step closer to doing that.

Following a visit to Chapel Hill last weekend, the Tar Heels appear on the precipice of a flip of 2026 4✮ DL Trashawn Ruffin, a current Texas A&M commit. 247Sports recruiting analyst Anna Adams confirmed that when she put in a crystal ball prediction yesterday morning in favor of Bill Belichick and Co. to complete the flip.

As of right now, Ruffin has official visits scheduled with four different programs, including UNC. It will start the weekend of May 30th when he will take a trip to LSU and will be followed by his trip to Chapel Hill the weekend of June 6th. He’ll conclude his schedule with two more trips to SEC schools, visiting Texas A&M on June 13th and South Carolina on June 20th.

Ruffin, the No. 195 overall player and No. 24 defensive lineman in the 2026 class, hails from North Duplin High School in Mount Olive, NC. This past season, as a junior, he collected 34 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry and one fumble recovery in nine games. The year prior, as a sophomore, he broke out by tallying 52 total tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, two quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery. He got his career off to a nice start in 2022, when he finished with 31 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

With this crystal ball prediction, it feels like we are officially on flip alert for Ruffin. If the staff continues the push that they have been making over the past month or so, they could get this done before those official visits are set to take place.
